The Jewels of the Loire Valley
SPECIAL 6 PACK BUNDLE (ONLY 10 AVAILABLE)
Often referred to as the Garden of France, the Loire and its 600-mile stretch of river and tributaries make up one of France’s foremost wine regions.
The region is dominated by just four major varieties, Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc, Melon de Bourgogne and Cabernet Franc and, whilst the wines simple and elegant, they are strangely much more complex than they appear
The wines from this icon region have lightness, airiness and freshness and that consistency of character is remarkable when you consider that the Loire follows a 630-mile course from a source near Beaujolais to the Atlantic Ocean. The Loire is a land of moderation: It’s cold in the winter, and never gets too hot in summer. Vines can really only grow here because of the river and its tributaries, which raise the temperature just those few vital degrees and ensure long, leisurely autumn days for the harvest
With 87 appellations the Loire Valley is a a compelling mosaic of wines that are individualistic and worthy of discovery
Dominique and Janine Crochet established their estate in 1992, starting with just a few hectares of perfectly situated hillside vineyards in Bué and though their estate is relatively young, they stem from an ancient line of winemakers in the area. Today, the domaine extends over fifteen hectares in more than forty tiny parcels, and is one of the leading estates in Sancerre
Paul Prieur’s wonderful family domaine is run by sons Didier, Luc and Philippe and is spread across three specific areas that each add something distinctive to the final wine – Caillotte (scent), Terre Blanches in the area known as Mont Dames (structure and vinosity) and Silex (minerality). All vineyards are hand harvested and unlike many other producers in the central vineyards of the Loire, the Prieur family only make wine from their own vineyards in Sancerre
The Sommeliers of PIVENE have curated a selection of wines from both of these very special producers all of which showcase the very best of the Loire Valley
